Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday attacked the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, claiming that democracy will end in the country if the “Modi-Shah government” returns to power.

Addressing a public meeting in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh, Kharge targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and said that they will also abolish the Constitution.

He said, “They will destroy the Constitution written by Baba Bhimrao Ambedkar. If you want to keep alive this, the right to vote for women, laborers and farmers, then vote for Congress and its ‘panja’ (hand) symbol,” he appealed to voters.

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi was scheduled to address a rally in Satna but his visit was canceled due to his ill health, with a party leader earlier saying Kharge would replace him.

Voting for Satna Lok Sabha seat will be held in the second phase on April 26.

Addressing a public meeting organized in support of Congress candidate Siddharth Kushwaha, Kharge claimed, “If the Modi-Shah government returns to power, democracy will end.”

Accusing PM Modi of lying, Kharge said that the PM keeps talking about ‘Modi’s guarantee’ without taking the name of his party. He had said that if he became the Prime Minister, Rs 15 lakh would be given to every person by bringing back the black money deposited abroad. Did you get it,” he asked.

Continuing his criticism of the PM, Kharge said that Modi had also told the youth of this country that 2 crore jobs would be created every year.

“Now 10 years have passed. Did you all get 20 crore jobs… Ask BJP about their 20 crore jobs (promise). Ask them where Rs 15 lakh is when they come to ask for your votes,” the senior Congress leader said.

Kharge said that Modi had promised to double the income of farmers but that too did not happen.

Listing the prices of LPG cylinders, milk, flour and pulses before 2014 when the Congress-led UPA was in power, Kharge said the rates of these commodities have been skyrocketing in the last ten years.

“These are the good days of Modi.” This man always says that I will bring good days. He lies a lot. That’s why I call him the ‘lord of lies’,” Kharge said.

He said, the country’s unemployment rate is the highest in the last 45 years but there is no accounting for it.

Kharge also claimed that the country’s assets such as airports, roads, land, public sector undertakings and big factories were being sold to “two buyers”.

“Who are these two men? Adani and Ambani are buyers. Who are the sellers? Modi and Shah,” Kharge said.

He said that loans worth Rs 16 lakh crore of rich people have been waived off, but the loans of poor farmers have not been waived off yet. Under the leadership of former Prime Ministers Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi, agricultural loans worth Rs 72,000 crore were waived off.
