President Draupadi Murmu on Saturday greeted citizens on the eve of Mahavir Jayanti and asked everyone to take a pledge to spread love and harmony in the society.

He said that Mahavir Jayanti is the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir, the symbol of “non-violence and compassion”.

Murmu said, “This festival gives us the message of love and peace. Lord Mahavir showed the path of non-violence, celibacy, truth and sacrifice to build an ideal and civilized society.”

His teachings will always remain relevant for human welfare, the President said.

Murmu said, “On this occasion, let us resolve to spread love and harmony in the society and work with dedication for the development of the nation.”

“On the auspicious occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to all fellow citizens, especially the Jain community,” he said in his message.
