Over 50 people who were trapped after a cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district were rescued by the NDRF, officials said on Friday.

On Thursday, there was a cloudburst and landslide in Shehnu Gouni village, blocking roads at many places.

Officials said a team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) traveled 15 km on foot to rescue the stranded people, including 15 children, and take them to safer places.

In another rain-related incident, the Maranwala bridge in Baddi, connecting industrial Baddi area and Pinjore, collapsed on Friday due to heavy inflow of water in Balad river due to recent rains.

Officials said that there was no news of loss of life in the incident.

“The Maranwala bridge has been washed away and traffic has been diverted through the Kalka-Kalujhanda-Barotiwala road,” Baddi Superintendent of Police Mohit Chawla told PTI.

709 roads have been closed due to heavy rains in the state.

Since the onset of monsoon on June 24 in the state till August 24, 242 people have died in rain-related incidents and the Public Works Department (PWD) alone has suffered a loss of Rs 2,829 crore.
