The city of Indianola acquired the former Indianola YMCA in late July, renaming the facility the Indianola Wellness Campus and moving most of the staff and programs to the facility. City Manager Ben Reeves told KNIA News that the reception has been positive and overwhelming support from the community using the facility and some of the new members. Reeves said membership is at a sustainable level and he expects it to continue to grow.

“The post-Covid-19 peak of members was around 1,800, and it usually occurs in the January timeframe and then tapers off in the summer months. We have already shifted 1,450 people to the new facility, with more coming every day. It’s pretty close to where we’re usually in. We expected a slight decline before hitting a higher plateau, and we were trying to prepare for a buffer where we might have to cover revenue for a short period of time. So far the community has been supportive, we appreciate all of that, and we invite everyone who hasn’t become a member yet to join us.
