Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav addresses a press conference

Samajwadi Party’s social media coordinator Manish Jagan Agarwal has been booked for allegedly posting derogatory and derogatory posts against former Allahabad University Students’ Union president Richa Singh, officials said.

Singh contested the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections from Prayagraj on a Samajwadi Party ticket.

Police officials said an FIR has been registered against Aggarwal at the Shivkuti police station on a complaint by Richa Singh, who alleged that he was being targeted by her on the social media platform X, which was called Twitter until recently.

According to the FIR, Agarwal, who manages the official X account of the Samajwadi Party, used extremely vulgar and derogatory language in response to a tweet by Singh on August 17.

The FIR alleged that Aggarwal was openly threatening to humiliate and defame her through social media and other means.

Based on the complaint, the police on Friday registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.

Significantly, in last year’s assembly elections, Richa Singh contested from Prayagraj on a Samajwadi Party ticket.
