Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has termed as “unfortunate” the Jadavpur University incident in which an undergraduate student died last week and demanded a thorough probe into the matter.

The Congress leader, while speaking to ANI, hit out at the Trinamool Congress-led state government, which is also a part of the India Bloc, saying that no measures have been taken to prevent any untoward incident.

“It is very unfortunate. There should be a thorough investigation of the matter. Strict steps should be taken to ensure that such incidents do not happen. Police is very slow. I think they should come into action. Nothing happens before the incident in Bengal. ” Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary said, everything happens after the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Swarnodeep Kundu, who died on the night of August 9, allegedly after falling from the balcony of the university hostel. She was allegedly raped before her death.

However, three more people were arrested in connection with the case on Friday.

At present, the total number of arrests in the case is 12.

The opposition in the state has targeted the West Bengal government regarding this incident.

Former cricketer Sourav Ganguly also reacted to the incident and termed the incident as “ridiculous” and urged stricter law enforcement in universities.

Sourav Ganguly said, “These are institutions where children come to study and this should be the main focus. This is ridiculous and shameful. The law should be very strict.”
