The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued summons to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in a money laundering case, sources in the agency said on Saturday.

ED has asked Jharkhand CM Soren to join its probe on August 24 in the alleged money laundering case.

Earlier on August 14, Soren was summoned by the ED in the alleged land scam case. Soren, however, did not join the central agency’s probe, citing his preoccupation with preparations for Independence Day celebrations in the state.

“Your selection of the date of 14th August does not come as a surprise to the undersigned (Hemant Soren). You and your political masters are fully aware that being the Chief Minister of the State of Jharkhand, the undersigned is set to hoist the National Flag Soren wrote in his letter, the flag on August 15, 2023, on the occasion of the 77th Independence Day of the Republic of India.

“Preparations for the Independence Day celebrations begin a week in advance and 14th August is an important day for it when many meetings are pre-scheduled. The caption calling the undersigned to appear before you on 14th August 2023 is intentionally given And it is part of a conspiracy to tarnish the reputation of not only the undersigned but also the democratically elected Government of the State of Jharkhand and the people of the State of Jharkhand, said the Chief Minister.

He further said that the central agencies are targeting him as he is not in sync with the central government.

The chief minister also mentioned that he has provided details of his movable and immovable assets to the CBI in the Lokpal-directed probe against his father Shibu Soren in 2020. ED can get details from CBI.
