CNN’s Jake Tapper admitted on air Thursday that President Trump was right when he accused Hunter Biden of making millions from China (and Ukraine and Russia) during the 2020 presidential debate with Joe Biden.

The confession by Tapper is a significant step in coming to grips with the established media that his effort to defend Joe Biden is falling apart as more evidence of Biden family corruption and bribery emerges from House Republicans that can no longer be ignored is or may not be covered.

Tapper used a Glenn Kessler-Washington Post “fact check” (probably this oneScroll down to the headline “$20 million from foreign sources”) as the basis for his comments, but it’s a start.

Kessler-Vapo Excerpt: “Separately (and not mentioned in the staff memo), Hunter Biden said in federal court last month that he received a total of approximately $2.6 million in 2017 and 2018 for business transactions between Hudson West and Chinese energy company CEFC Were.”

The Jake Tapper panel discussion on Biden was led by Republican strategist Kristen Soltis Anderson, former Representative Andy Levin (D-MI) and CNN chief national affairs correspondent Jeff Zeleny.

cnn transcript (Part):

Tapper: Yes. And Kristen, Glenn Kessler of “The Washington Post” did a fact-check about Joe Biden earlier this month, reporting that Hunter Biden admitted in court in July that he, in fact, did Chinese Had paid substantial amount from the companies. Hunter Biden reported about 2.4 million income in 2017 and 2.2 million in 2018, Kessler wrote, most of which came from Chinese or Ukrainian interests. But this – and this goes directly against what Joe Biden said in the 2020 debate with Donald Trump. Listen.

JOE BIDEN, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: My son hasn’t made money in this case what are you talking about, what are you talking about, China.

(crosstalk)

Donald Trump (right), presidential candidate: he made a lot of money in Ukraine, in China, in Moscow –

BIDEN: That’s not true at all.

Trump:- and many other places.

Tapper: So it’s from two different debates. But I mean, Trump was right. I mean, they made a lot of money from China, and Joe Biden was wrong. I don’t know that he was lying about it. Maybe Hunter didn’t tell him. But this blind spot is a problem.

ANDERSON: It’s a problem, because Republicans won’t let it go, that’s for sure. But these problems continue even through the legal system. Not that this is something that has been settled in other jurisdictions, and Republicans are just harping on it. This is a matter going on in our courts. It’s not going anywhere.

Tapper: It’s a blind spot. Is this a concern for you as a Democrat?

LEVIN: Well, I think sometimes fathers and sometimes parents certainly have misconceptions about their children, and the president may be no exception. But nothing has linked the president to any of Hunter Biden’s deals. There is no doubt of his involvement or being implicated in this. And, you know, I think it’s not something that voters care too much about.

Tapper: Well, my thanks to the panel. Thanks once again.
