Bismarck, n.d. (KXNET) – Communication is key for first responders when it comes to service and safety. And now, North Dakota Information Technology is announcing a new team to further improve communications for first responders.

A new public safety team is dedicated to enhancing the statewide Interoperable Radio Network (SIRN).

It will connect first responders with other agencies in our state.

The Public Safety team would work not only with police and firefighters but also with emergency crews and even the National Guard.

“The team will support their efforts on the technology side through things like SIRN, some of the 911 systems in the corporation in collaboration with the counties and some other areas. So this just dedicates a group of people to NDIT who can keep their eye on the ball for public safety,” said Erik Pedersen, NDIT public safety manager.

Newly appointed Public Safety Manager Erik Pedersen has been in the public safety technology field for over 20 years.

He says that during those years technology has greatly aided communication between public safety agencies. And the new Public Safety team will help continue that trend with this new network.
