Chief Minister Hemant Soren said that five people died after a portion of a well caved in at a village in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district on Thursday. However, NDRF officials said that the death toll is still unknown as rescue operations are on.

The incident took place in Piska village, about 70 km from state capital Ranchi.

Meanwhile, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel said efforts are on to rescue five people trapped inside the well and the death toll was not immediately known.

The incident took place in the afternoon when an animal fell into the well. Ranchi SP (Rural) HB Jama said nine people went inside the well while trying to save it and then a portion caved in.
